FINAL MAJOR PROJECT

IDEA ONE:CLIMATE CHANGE

My first idea for my fmp is to take photographs that have strong messages about Global Warming throughout them. Which is carrying on from my Creative Process project. Global Warming has been a rising topic for a very long time but one I think more and more people are starting to realise just how damaging it is going to be. As a landscape photographer I think it is vital that you have respect for the environment and I want to show this through my work.
I would want to use film for this project and maybe polaroid film but I'm not too sure yet, as polaroid is never comes out very decent. The reason I want to use film is because I want them to be a one off.
My inspiration for this idea is Joe Cornish.

Costs:

The costs for this would be mainly to be able to travel to different locations. I would also have to think about costs for film as I would want to use either 35mm or 120mm.

Limitations:
My only real limitation is not having enough time to travel to different places or not having enough money to get to different locations.

IDEA TWO:
NATURE V. MAN

My second idea is to take photographs of landscapes that have nature in the foreground and buildings in the background or versa. This idea is sort of similar to my first idea because I would like to build up my landscape portfolio as it's my speciality and I am also carrying on from my creative process. I think it would be good idea to show the contrast between both nature and buildings as one of the nature in these photographs might not be there in the future as the buildings weren't there at one point either.

Costs:

The costs would be about the same as the first one as I would need to travel to different places to capture different contrasts between locations and buildings. I don't know yet whether I would use film or digital.

Limitations:
Limitations would be not finding a contrasting landscape and man made scape, however I could always turn to digital manipulation and Photoshop landscapes and man made scapes together to get even more of an impact.

IDEA THREE:
STAGED PORTRAITS

My third and final idea is different from the first two, it's portraits not location. My favourite photographer is Gregory Crewdson whom creates highly staged, elaborate photographs and this is something that I thought I might try for this project as it is out of my comfort zone because I'm not really a fan of taking portraits nor working in the studio which I think I would be working in the studio for this idea to have better control of the lighting.

Costs:
This project wouldn't cost as much as my other two ideas because I wouldn't need to travel because I want to work in the studio for this idea.

Limitations:
Limitations for this project idea would be not using a variant of models and or not being able to work with different models.

  1. I feel like you have more passion for the first two ideas and that you have really thought them through. I think there is a lot to with with those ideas based around global warming.

That being said, if you developed the last idea further I think it would be good to push yourself to try something new.

  2. 3 brilliant ideas, Climate change and location you are very confident about which makes me think you won't be pushing your self to the max. staged portraits sound like a excellent idea which can give you a challenge.

  3. Hello, I agree with what Paul said in class, which is to definitely consider doing your idea 3. You're very inspired by his work and you know it inside and out, and you also have good control in lighting on location and studio.

If you do go with one of your first ideas, perhaps take a photo in digital of the buildings, and then use film, colour or black and white would work, and then cut part of the building out on the digital image and attach it to the film photo.

  4. Jaz, well done for the varied ideas. The first 2 as you said will benefit your portfolio and passion for the environment. the 3rd as you said will push you out of your confidence zone.

personally I think you need to go back to your research and consider what it is you want to show and say- all photography is about telling a story you just need to decide on which one.

also consider that the photograph is just the recording document.

  5. I like your 1 and 3 idea. Global warming is a top subject and the images can send strong message to the viewers.

  6. I think the first idea is fantastic as it is very relevant at the moment and is most definitely something you feel strong about, I think is most certainly the context you need to use. I think that your inspiration within idea 3 of Gregory Crewdson shows that you are passionate about his work and you believe in the ways in which he displays the narrative, possibly a combination of staged shoots whilst serving the purpose of the narative great work i look forward to seeing the end result.

  7. i think the first two ideas real show where your passion lies, the third idea you could choose as its something you do not explore this being said i think you should concentrate on your strong points and ideas and explore them

  8. dont forget to add
    • Identify goals and limitations
    • Time constraints
    • Rationale for selection
    • What exhibitions could you visit in as a form of PRIMARY research relating to your ideas?
